The Popular Applause

The pop-culture figure sings a bad line from Lionell Richie on stage and the crowd cheers like it was the launching of the titanic. If it was Joe Schmoe singing the same lyric in the same off key tune in the same flamboyant manner, the crowd would groan in agony. It’s this thing we do around famous people, the need for them to like us as individuals when we’re in an in descript crowd.  As if the singular applause of my not clapping would set me apart from the throngs of people around me cheer wildly as some no name idiot reads aloud or repeats a line from some play.  Well I’m done, if its not really worth clapping or cheering for no matter how famous I’m not doing it.  In fact if given the chance I will address these famous people personally (when applicable) to tell them I was not entertained by their rendition of Austin Powers singing.
