Edibles

I travel a lot for work.  A lot of that is me on a Motorcycle criss-crossing the US for no reason other then to get miles on vehicles. On those trips I’m in constant search of the best BBQ ribs, and regional restaurants.  Since I can’t ever seem to remember what they were I’m using this to compile my list.  After I visit these places I’ll update this page with my own review. Here we go…

* okay now that I’ve eaten here I can say they’re good ribs but not spectacular.  They leave the membrane on the back of the ribs which is amateur hour.  They have really good smoke and they’re just the right bit of chewey with out being too fall off the bone but the dry rub was a little lack luster.  Good prices though.

* I had the pulled pork at this spot. It was magical, really good flavor, deep and smokey with a nice dry rub. I thought they’re sauce was a little ho-hum though.  Great ambiance, friendly staff and fast.  Excellent hamburgers.

Cozy Corner – Quick lunch pick up – the sweet potatoe fries are the key.

* This place is the fricking bomb. The ribs were so amazing, the dry rub was so good I’m getting drool just thinking about it.  Its this spicy but sweet and salty blend add to that a great smoke flavor, just the right amount of tenderness, not too stringy not to soft. No back membrane just all around excellent, get it dry and try the 4 sauces, a regular tomato sweet, a tomato based spicy, a mustard and a vinegar base.  All excellent.

* Ribs were huge, these are probably the biggest ribs I have ever seen. They actually had a good portion of the tenderloin on the ribs still.  Which is where the problem comes in, that much tenderloin cooked the same way ribs are supposed to be left them a little dry.  The meat between the ribs and on the ribs themselves were great.  The spice wasn’t really there but they serve the ribs wet and basted so it made up for it. I normally can eat a full slab of ribs, this place put me to shame, I don’t think I got through a 1/2 slab.

The Pier
100 Wagner Pl
Memphis, TN 38103-2908

This place sucked, they were out of Cecsar Salad dressing…which is whipped oil, eggs, garlic and anchovies with some lemon juice. I can make it in 20 minutes that includes going to the store for anchovies.  Then they were out of the Amberjack fish, and they had bacon wrapped all the filet so it wasn’t kosher.  We ordered Apps, then dinner and mid way through thinking about where we were and how depressing it is we cancelled our order, paid for the apps to go and left.

*Had excellent service. Came from the Pier where we had cancelled our entrees and appetizers and ended up here. Excellent salmon, rare with a pistacio sauce and wilted spinach. Argentine Filet was magnificent, soft, buttery with some amazing spices and mashed potatoes. Service was excellent, top notch, not too attentive but just enough. Good beer, wine and liquor selection.
